The Honourable Allan Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, today called for the second round of Expressions of Interest for projects that facilitate the assessment and recognition of foreign qualifications.
Eligible applicants include regulatory authorities with responsibility for regulating occupations in Newfoundland and Labrador, organizations serving immigrants, and educational institutions. Other stakeholders may be considered, however, the regulatory authority must be a partner in the project.
Applications are available at www.aesl.gov.nl.ca/pdf/final_fqr.pdf and will be accepted until September 25, 2017.
Signed in July 2016, the federal-provincial Foreign Qualification Recognition Agreement is supported by $800,000 in federal funding over two years. An initial call for Expressions of Interest concluded in May with more than $165,000 allocated to support five projects, helping achieve a key commitment in The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador to enhance foreign qualification recognition. The agreement also builds on the strong partnership between the provincial and federal governments and supports the Atlantic Growth Strategy.
Quotes
“Recognizing the qualifications of newcomers to Newfoundland and Labrador helps ensure they are able to more fully integrate into the provincial workforce and work in areas that match their education and training, which benefits everyone by enhancing the economic, social, and cultural fabric of our province.”
Honourable Allan Hawkins
Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour
